Evidence-Based Interventions

Asperger Syndrome is a high-functioning autism spectrum disorder.  Because its symptoms are subtler than those of classic autism--and because they are often masked by a child's high cognitive and verbal skills--most children with AS are not diagnosed until elementary school or later. Sadly, even then, they often do not receive the interventions and supports that would allow them to achieve their maximum potential.

Children with Asperger Syndrome are different--not defective. They are intelligent, loving children, who, because of innate neurological differences, have challenges in the areas of social skills, communication, executive function (organizing and planning skills), and behavior. The good news is that, with appropriate intervention, most of these kids are capable of making great strides in all these areas!
